Happy Labor Day! In honor of this holiday I pose a question: Are you too busy? Chances are you are. We are a society that encourages busyness. There are so many things available that pull us in different directions i.e. apps, Facebook, hobbies, sports, television, etc. Too many people are getting beat up (mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually) simply because they are not taking the time to rest. Even God saw the value of rest when he finished creating everything. What is even a greater danger is the fact that God is becoming less of a priority. We make our “stuff” more important than the things of God. We don’t have time to read or pray, or we are too tired to go to church. In doing so, we open ourselves up to wrong attitudes, poor choices, deception, and ultimately destruction. In Isaiah 40:31 he writes that those who wait on the Lord will have their strength renewed. He uses the illustration of an eagle soaring and rising up. Jesus invites us to come to him if we are weary and burdened and he will give us to rest (Matthew 11:28). We have to choose to give God first place in our lives and when we do everything else will begin to fall into place (Matthew 6:33). So take some time to evaluate everything in your life. Is God getting the best or the leftovers? Make a list and look at some things you can eliminate. Get everyone involved. If you are married or have kids, ask them what they think. You may be amazed at what they think is important versus what you think. Time is too valuable to waste. Remember that the most important thing you can do with your time is honor God with it. Don’t waste another minute!
